2 people taken to hospital after house fire in Northwest Philadelphia
Two people were taken to the hospital after a two-alarm fire broke out at a rowhome in Philadelphia's West Oak Lane neighborhood Sunday morning, fire officials said.
Fire crews responded to the blaze on the 1600 block of 68th Avenue just before 2 a.m. Sunday. After arriving, firefighters encountered heavy fire on the first and second floors of a two-story rowhome. The fire was placed in all hands status, meaning 60 firefighters were on the scene fighting the blaze.
The fire spread to another home, leading the deputy chief in command to call for more firefighters to respond. More than 100 firefighters were then on the scene working to tame the blaze, officials said.
Emergency medical services treated two people at the scene before bringing them to a nearby hospital.
Firefighters placed the blaze under control at 3:07 a.m. Officials said no firefighters were injured while responding to the house fire.
The conditions of the two people taken to the hospital are unknown.
The American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania branch is supporting a family of three impacted by the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Philadelphia Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.
