West Catholic High Vigil To Honor Grad Killed In Orlando Shooting
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The life of the West Catholic Prep graduate, killed in the Orlando terror attack, will be honored at her school tonight. And her mother is sharing the horrifying moments after they found out their daughter was shot.
Natalie Murray says around 2 a.m. Sunday, she got a text from her niece, Tiara, asking to go to Pulse nightclub to pick them up.
The niece and her friend were with Natalie's daughter, Akyra. Natalie and her husband rushed to the club and on the way she says Akyra called telling them she was shot in the arm.
Her parents tried to calm her down, telling her they needed to use the phone's GPS and call police.
"I didn't want to hang up with her but I needed to make these moves happen," Natalie said. "It was horrific and that was the last time I talked to my daughter."
Natalie also recounts the chaos.
"We waited, we waited, we waited. We watched ambulances come and go."
Akyra will be remembered at West Catholic Prep. It's a private vigil set for 6 p.m.
