Weekend Box Office: Tron Wins Running Away
(CBS) - This sequel was more than an equal. The high-tech thriller Tron: Legacy, the 28-years-later followup starring Jeff Bridges, finished first at the box office running away from the pack and earning an estimated $44 million in its weekend debut.
Second place went to another new attraction, Yogi Bear, the kid flick featuring the voices of Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake which took in $17 million. That dropped last weekend's leader The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, to third with $12 million.
The real-life boxing drama The Fighter, with Mark Wahlberg, debuted in fourth place with $12 million. The weekend's other new mainstream release How Do You Know, the new James L. Brooks comedy with Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd, placed eighth with $8 million. Overall, industry totals on this holiday-season weekend were not quite up to expectations.
