Weekend Box Office: Shrek Spinoff On Top
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The spinoff from "Shrek" shrieked at the box office.
The debuting animated comedy "Puss in Boots" featuring the Antonio Banderas-voiced character from the last three "Shrek" sequels, scared up an estimated $34 million on this snowy Halloween weekend which was enough for a first-place finish.
Last weekend's record-setting ticket-selling leader, the horror sequel "Paranormal Activity 3" had a solid second weekend as well, taking in over $18 million and placing second.
The weekend's two other mainstream releases held down the third and fourth spots.
"In Time," the science fiction thriller with Justin Timberlake, earned $12 million, while the Johnny Depp comedy-drama "The Rum Diary" totaled $5 million.
Overall, industry-wide totals slightly exceeded those on the counterpart weekend last year.
