Weekend Box Office Report: 'Sully' Soars To The Top
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sully flies high at the box office.
The Tom Hanks-starring real-life drama about the Miracle on the Hudson, directed by Clint Eastwood, finished first at the box office by earning an estimated $36-million on its weekend debut.
Another new attraction was the runner-up: the suspense thriller, When the Bough Breaks, with Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall. It opened by taking in $15-million.
That dropped the leader of the last two weekends – the thriller, Don't Breathe – into third place with $8-million.
The holdover, Suicide Squad, finished fourth with $5-million, the only other title to pass the $5-million mark.
Overall, industry-wide totals were modest, about the same as those of last weekend and slightly higher than those of a year ago.
