Wednesday's Child: Kayla

By Larry Kane

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — At 14, Kayla is a bit shy -- until you get her talking about sports.

She loves playing basketball, and even showed the Drexel Dragons a few moves when she was invited to their practice!

"I was playing with them and I had to do the exercises and the shooting and stuff with them, too," she recalls.  "And this one game I won, out of the whole team. It's where you have to keep the ball inside the key, bounce it and try to knock everyone else's out.  So I won that."

She says an active family would be great, but more than anything else she wants a permanent home.

"Someone who listens, understands, and cares," Kayla says.

Gloria Hochman, of the National Adoption Center, based in Philadelphia, says Kayla needs someone who will support her.

"It's important that Kayla has a family that's interested in her activities," Hochman says.  "If they practice sports themselves, that would be great.  But even if they don't, if they show an interest in what she wants to do, and they go to basketball games and they encourage her, that would go a long way to making her really happy."
