Wednesday's Child: Jabriel

By Larry Kane
Produced by Timothy McLaughlin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Twelve-year-old Jabriel is something of a chess prodigy.

He wants to be the world champion one day, and he's already on his way. He won the state championship of Pennsylvania in his age category.

He says it took a lot of hard work and practice to win his age group.

(Jabriel:) "I had to beat people that were better than me, which I did successfully do."

(Larry Kane:) "And how did you do that?"

(Jabriel:) "I kept looking at the weak points in their game."

(Larry Kane:) "So, you would watch them play other people?"

(Jabriel:) "Yeah, and when they became my opponents in the next round, I would end up beating them."

He also takes martial arts lessons and likes going to museums.

Gloria Hochman, with the National Adoption Center, based in Philadelphia, says Jabriel would be a great addition to any family.

"He would add a tremendous dimension to any family," she says, "a child that they would be proud of and be happy to have in their home."
