WEATHER: Winter Under Citizen's Arrest
By Carol Erickson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Winter took spring hostage on Friday and refused to give up without a struggle.
The messy breakup of the two seasons resulted in townsfolk having to beat back winter with shovels and scrapers and plows. Winter seemed unfazed and stayed icy cold throughout what should have been spring's first night on the town. Spring whimpered under the weight of winter, again dressed in a silly white outfit.
Some local citizens, furious that winter snowed on spring's parade, sprinkled ice melt on narrow ribbons of snowy ground and waited for help from above, today's strong March sun and a 50 degree temperature – to complete the job.
While winter's signature look is on the way out of town, spring remains so dispirited from the battle that it can only muster a weak "thank you" to residents and temperatures only in the 40's from Sunday through Tuesday.
Spring needs a fever. Winter be warned: townsfolk, armed with brine and salt, will meet again should winter think about returning before December.
