WEATHER: Weekends Equal Cold And Wet
By Carol Erickson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The calendar says it all – if it is close to a weekend, than the weather is either lousy or getting there. This weekend no exception, with a complex storm system coming in just after the noon hour. A WINTER STORM WARNING runs from noon Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday for Philadelphia and New Castle County, Delaware for 2 to 4 inches of snow in Philadelphia, about 4 to 6 inches north and west and heading through the Lehigh Valley where the warning expires at 6 a.m. Sunday. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY, a slightly lesser category than the warning, covers areas to the south and east through New Jersey and Southern Delaware for 2-3 inches of snow tapering to an inch or so by the coast.
The storm changes personality from cold and snowy to slightly milder and wetter overnight, with some ice (sleet, freezing rain) in between. Generally, the daytime features snow, the evening the mix and the overnight the rain. But know that timing can change and road conditions can change abruptly, too. Be very careful of reduced visibility in any snow bursts on lingering frozen ground.
Should the grocery store be in your short range future? Why not try to skip it for this one, as we'll be outside again tomorrow, with the rain having done some shoveling for us and temperatures above the freezing mark. Middle 40's are possible on Sunday afternoon. Until then, take it easy, keep your pets inside in this cold wet spell heading in for afternoon and overnight, and get ready for more single-digit cold by Monday night.
