Weather Service Confirms Tornado Touched Down in Delco
It turns out that yesterday afternoon's tornado warning for parts of the Delaware Valley was spot on.
KYW's Ian Bush reports that the National Weather Service has confirmed it was a weak tornado that damaged homes and other structures in Chester, Pa. around 3:45pm.
Meteorologists estimate its maximum winds were 75 miles an hour. That places the storm in the weakest category, EF zero, on the Enhanced Fujita scale, which classifies tornadoes.
No injuries were reported, but the weather service says the tornado blew out the wall of a garage near 4th and Engle Streets and took down trees and caused siding and roof damage along a path three-tenths of a mile east to the Commodore Barry Bridge.
The weak twister lifted there, but not before ripping planks off the I-95 ramp, which is still under construction.
