Weather Blog: Spring Snow Tonight

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This will be the second year in a row with snow on the first day of Spring. On March 20, 2015, 3.9" of snow fell in Philadelphia. Astronomical Spring officially arrived this morning at 12:30 a.m. and round two of our weekend storm will impact us this afternoon and tonight with some rain and snow, as the coastal storm develops and tracks offshore.
Light rain will develop this afternoon, especially south and east of the Philly and continue into the evening. Then after sunset, as the storm intensifies, colder air moves in turning the rain over to snow. The snow will come to an end early Monday morning. The best chance for accumulation will be across eastern New Jersey, where a winter weather advisory will go into effect tonight. 1-3" of snow is possible across eastern New Jersey with lesser amounts to the north and west. Temperatures will remain at or above freezing so the accumulating snow will be mainly on grassy surfaces and cars.
There will be a sharp cutoff in precipitation just to the north of Philadelphia. So it is possible the northern suburbs up to the Poconos may see little, if any precipitation. This will all depend on how close to the coast the storm tracks
Behind the storm, temperatures stay cool in the 40's on Monday before May-like temperatures return for the middle of the week.
