WEATHER BLOG: Heat & Humidity Return

By Justin Drabick

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - We had another pleasant weekend across the Delaware Valley with high temperatures below average in the 70s on Saturday and near average in the low 80s on Sunday.  Dew point temperatures, which measure how much moisture is in the atmosphere were very low in the 40s and 50s, this means a very dry air mass.

The high pressure system that has kept the weather quiet will begin to move offshore on Monday.  This will bring some chances.

Currently, winds are northerly on the front side of the high, bringing in dry Canadian air.  On Monday, the wind will switch out of the southwest on the back side of the high.  This will increase the temperatures and humidity.  Highs on Monday will return well above average in the upper 80s.

The core of the hot and humid air mass will arrive for Tuesday through Thursday.  High temperatures will make a run at the low 90s with high humidity, this will make it the first 90 degree day this season.

A few weak jet stream disturbances will move through and could trigger a scattered shower & storm, especially Monday night and Wednesday.  A better chance for some scattered showers and storms will be on Thursday, as a cold front approaches.

High temperatures by the end of the week will return closer to average in the mid 80s.
