WEATHER BLOG: Area Hairdressers Host Humid Weather Thank-You Bashes At Local Salons
By Carol Erickson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thousands of Philadelphia area hairdressers in unison pressed hard on the nozzles of their extra heavy duty hair spray canisters on Saturday in a show of support for humid weather.
The hair ruining weather conditions have thrilled the stylists who have rescued countless people horrified by their misbehaving follicles.
"Help, I look like a maniac," one woman who wished to remain anonymous screamed at the receptionist at the Curl Up and Dye Salon while demanding an appointment "this second." The woman, identified as Beth the Beast by her complaining (and bald) husband Harry, refused to leave the salon until her entire head was saturated with 'Supreme High Humidity This Will Look And Feel Like A Helmet' brand hair spray.
The stylist, wobbling under the weight of tips dumped into the pocket of her pink styling jacket, said she welcomes forecasts like Saturday's. "This shows those do it yourselfers with their own blow dryers and hair spray at home that, no, sorry ladies, you cannot do this yourself. In hot and humid weather like this, you need to pay the experts or look like a clown." The Clown union has filed a grievance.
A cold front and a drying air mass will begin to empty salons on Sunday.
