Wayne, Pa. Company Helps Create 'A Better World'

WAYNE, Pa. (CBS) – Often find yourself wishing for a better world?
That's the idea behind one online game, developed by local husband-wife start-up ToonUps and aptly-named A Better World: improve the world, one step at a time. And in a unique way.
A Better World, which was created by the Wayne company, focuses on positivity and community support—both in the real world and the virtual one. To enter, players simple sign up on Facebook, pick a character and begin exploring. Every aspect of the game, from the Gratitude Grotto to the Department of Do Good, provides opportunities to post "do-good" activities that help out the community. And every activity that a player does (which includes everything from donating food to a homeless shelter and spending time with a senior citizen to simply posting expressions of gratitude) earns them points.
What's more, this January, ToonUps' A Better World has teamed up with CURE.org to launch the "Reach for the Stars Community Goal," a community challenge that aims to generate one million good deeds or expressions of gratitude before Jan. 31, 2012. Players report their good deeds or kind acts within the game, and when one million have been tallied, $10,000 will be donated to CURE.org to fund much-needed medical operations for 10 children in Third World countries.
So far, A Better World has garnered about 700,000 expressions of good. To play the game and contribute to the tally, visit www.facebook.com/ABetterWorld.
