Water Main Break Shuts Down Part Of Butler Pike In Montgomery County

WHITEMARSH TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) –- An early morning water main break in Montgomery County, Pa. was affecting some homes and businesses and shut down a stretch of Butler Pike between Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike in Whitemarsh Township.
The 12-inch water main, near the intersection of Ridge and Butler, cracked shortly before 7:30am.
Aqua America crews responded, and about three hours later isolated the location of the break and shut down some valves.
About a dozen customers were without water, but customers in four other neighboring communities may have decreased water pressure.
"Like most cases when a water main breaks, weather is a factor and the age of the main is a factor, so it could very well be a combination of both of those," said Scott Lynch, the fire marshal in Whitemarsh.
He said they also hope to get into some of those businesses along Butler Pike to assess whether they have any significant water damage. They hope to have everything reopened in time for the Wednesday morning rush hour.
