Watchdog Group Releases Results Of Election Day Survey On Voter ID Law

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The voting rights watchdog, Committee of Seventy, released the results of its Election Day survey on Voter ID.
"We had dozens of volunteers asking Philadelphia voters whether they were ready for the new law," says Zack Stalberg, president of Committee of Seventy.
He says on November 6th, volunteers surveyed nearly 5,000 voters at 65 precincts throughout Philadelphia to get a quick snapshot of whether voters would be prepared to show proper photo ID if the law was in place.
"Overwhelmingly, those that were asked say they were ready. But of course, that doesn't include the folks that didn't show up to vote," says Stalberg.
Although Stalberg says the survey data is not scientific, the findings show less than four percent of those surveyed either did not have any ID or were not sure if their ID met the requirements of the law. He says the law should not be enforced until a final decision from the court.
A trial on the voter ID law is scheduled for July 15th. A final decision is not expected until the end of the year.
