Washington Twp. Police Officer Charged With Harassing Assemblyman Moriarty
By David Madden
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) - A Washington Township police officer is facing charges of official misconduct, harassment and more stemming from a traffic stop last July involving New Jersey State Assemblyman Paul Moriarty.
A municipal court judge outside of Gloucester County upheld 13 of the 27 accusations Moriarty made against Officer Joseph DiBuonaventura, who claimed Moriarty cut him off in traffic and was driving drunk. Video from the officer's car cam would suggest that didn't happen.
Moriarty's attorney, John Eastlack, says the matter is by no means concluded.
"The charges will go to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's office, just like any other charge that would be filed against any other individual to be then reviewed, investigated and eventually presented to a grand jury."
Which could lead to an indictment. Also now under review, the DWI and motor vehicle charges filed against Moriarty. An attorney for the officer did not return a call requesting comment.
