Was Ron Jaworksi Moved Out Of The Monday Night Football Booth In An Effort To Keep Jon Gruden?
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The announcement came earlier this week that Ron Jaworski would move out of the Monday Night Football broadcast booth, leaving only Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden to call the games.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk thinks the move was made as part of a long-term plan to keep Gruden with Monday Night Football, and away from coaching. "I think at the core what this is about is keeping Jon Gruden over the long haul," he said in an interview with 94 WIP's Angelo Cataldi and The Morning Team on Thursday. "They know that with every passing year, the chance of him leaving and returning to coaching gets greater and greater. So if you can make Monday Night Football into the Jon Gruden Show with Mike Tirico, then maybe you can convince Jon Gruden to stick around over the long haul."

Florio doesn't think that the broadcast can stay a two-man team though. "There's got to be somebody else under that big top that can sit in the booth with Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden," he said. "That's the other side of this coin that no one's addressed. If Ron Jaworski is better served elsewhere, fine. But there's got to be somebody else who can sit in there and be the number three."
