Warminster Man Cited For Crash That Caused Illinois Train Derailment
BARTLETT, Ill. (AP) — A Pennsylvania truck driver is being cited for a suburban Chicago crash that caused a commuter train derailment.
Volodimyr Matkivski is accused of ignoring a posted sign and making an illegal left turn before Monday's crash.
Authorities say he was behind the wheel of a semitrailer carrying five vehicles that tried to cross the tracks near Bartlett. The truck didn't have enough room and was stopped across both tracks when it was hit by an oncoming train.
Two people received minor injuries and the front train car derailed.
The 41-year-old from Warminster, Pa., tells The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald he didn't do anything wrong. He says the lights at the crossing never flashed and says he stopped the truck after the gate became stuck between the cars on his trailer.
