Warm Winter Weather Driving Delaware Valley Homeowners Buggy
By Lynne Adkins
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The calendar says winter, but it feels more like spring, and that's confusing a lot of little critters.
Insects don't know it's winter, so chances are you're seeing more of the pests around your house.
Missy Henricksen, spokeswoman for the National Pest Management Association, says certain species are thriving around here.
"We are seeing a heavier population of stink bugs right now. We are seeing more reports of multi-colored Asian ladybeetles, often known as lady bugs. We're seeing more box elder bugs and kudzu bugs as well."
She says since the bugs are already out, the numbers will just increase this spring.
If you want to discourage unwelcome visitors, she advises, keep mulch away from the foundation of your home, remove standing water wherever it may be collecting, seal cracks and holes around the house, and keep trash containers clean and empty.
