Want To Find Red Light Cameras? There's An App For That
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There's a new app for your iPhone that finds the location of red-light cameras in a particular city. It is drawing fire from AAA Mid-Atlantic as just one more dangerous distraction for drivers.
Jana Tidwell, with AAA Mid-Atlantic, says the iPhone app being marketed by a well-known maker of radar detectors is just the latest piece of paraphernalia that can be a detriment to drivers.
She said such devices encourage motorists to take their hands off the wheel and their eyes off the road. Motorists, she adds, don't need to pay for such an app. "Quite honestly, if you are a good driver and if you are obeying traffic laws and speed limits where you're driving, there should be no need to have the phone in your hand to detect where the red-light cameras or speed cameras are," said Tidwell.
She said that kind of information is readily available for free online and adds that roads where such cameras are set up are well-marked and identified by multiple signs.
