VP Biden Visits Central Bucks West, Touting White House Efforts To Boost Education

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Vice President Joseph Biden talked up the benefits of a college education and how the Obama administration is trying to make it more affordable for middle-class families, during a stop today at Central Bucks West High School in Bucks County.
Biden told the crowd that he put his kids through college by using the equity in his home. He says families can't do that now because of what he called "the perfect storm" when housing values and retirement accounts tanked and unemployment went up.
He says the Obama administration is increasing grants, providing tax breaks, and making it easier to pay back college loans to help the middle class.

Central Bucks West student Kristen Barrow, who asked the vice president a question during his appearance, called it a positive message.
"I'm concerned about going to the university but, yes, today he did make things very positive, and it seemed like there is a great possibility," she told KYW Newsradio afterward.
Biden says the administration is also working with colleges and universities to keep the cost of an education down. With the right tools, he says, these kids have the potential to become the greatest generation.
