Voters Head To The Polls In New Jersey For Special Senate Election

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) --- Voters are heading to the polls in New Jersey today to pick a successor to the late U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg.
At Cherry Hill West High School, voting officials described turnout as slow, but steady, and were hoping activity would pick up later in the day.
There are only two choices on the ballot, Democrat Cory Booker or Republican Steve Lonegan.
Steve, from Cherry Hill, said he's been a Republican voter for years, but the recent mess in Washington had an impact on his vote today.
"I will never vote for a Republican again," said Steve. "I voted Republican in the past, but I'm very, very, very upset with how the Republicans handled themselves in Congress. So, now, I'm a new Democrat."
Yvonne, also from Cherry Hill, is a regular voter at each election here. "There are no issues today," she said. "There's only one question as to who's going to fill in for our senator. So, one short vote."
Expectations for voter turnout in Haddon Township, Camden County were very low for this election, but election officials tell CBS 3 that three times as many voters came out today than in the primary.
Voters at the Vorhees town center said the gridlock in Washington was one of the main reasons they showed up to vote.
"I do know it's hurting people who have to pay heavy taxes, who don't have jobs, who are suffering from the burdens of the government," said Reba Fletcher, who came to vote today.
