Voters Head To Polls For Primary Day In New Jersey
By David Madden
TRENTON, NJ (CBS) - This is primary day in the Garden State. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 tonight. There are a few major races where party nominations are up for grabs.
Cory Booker, who traded being Mayor of Newark to serve out the U.S. Senate term of the late Frank Lautenberg, is unopposed in his bid for a full 6 years in Washington. Four North Jersey Republicans are seeking to take him on in the fall.
In our region, the congressional seat held until February by Rob Andrews has three Democrats and four Republicans vying for a battle in November.
Jon Runyan's decision not to seek re-election to Congress set up a two-way GOP showdown between dueling former mayors, while Democrats will choose between three hopefuls, one of them a Burlington County freeholder.
Republican Frank LoBiondo is seeking re-election, and faces the same primary opponent he beat 2 years ago.
Two Democrats are running in the second district, including the son of LoBiondo's congressional predecessor.
