Vote: Will Flyers Amnesty Ilya Bryzgalov This Summer?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – When the new NHL labor deal is ratified in the coming days, it will reportedly contain an amnesty clause.
The clause allows teams to cut a player it has under contract, and that contract no longer counts against the team's salary cap. The player will still get paid the entirety of the contract. Teams can use the clause on two players before the 2013-14 season, starting after the coming season.
When the Flyers signed Ilya Bryzgalov to a nine-year, $51 million contract, they thought they found the dominant goalie they've needed for so many years. His first season with the team was a rocky one, to put it mildly.
Since it's unlikely they could find a team to take on his contract, will this season be Bryzgalov's last in a Flyers uniform?
