Vote: Eagles Head Coaching Candidates
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Since Andy Reid's dismissal as Eagles head coach on Monday, the names of potential replacements have been flying. Here's a list of who has been mentioned:
Bill O'Brien: Current head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions, previously offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the New England Patriots and Tom Brady. Potential buyout of his PSU contract has been rumored to be between $9 million and $19 million.
Chip Kelly: Current head coach of the Oregon Ducks, and reportedly an apple of Jeffrey Lurie's eye. Some question whether he can adjust his offensive system to the NFL, and potentially a less mobile quarterback, as well as no NFL experience.
Mike Nolan: Current defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, and was interviewed by the Eagles on Wednesday. Nolan joined the Falcons this season after serving two seasons as defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins and one season as defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. Nolan was also previously the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
Kyle Armstrong: Current special teams coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, where he's been since 2008. Armstrong has been an NFL special teams coordinator for over a decade.
Mike McCoy: Current offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. The Broncos offense has been impressive in 2012, but many question whether that is the work of McCoy or Peyton Manning.
Jon Gruden: Currently an NFL Analyst for ESPN, rumors have suggested that Gruden is open to coaching again. He won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Bucs, but followed that season with a few more tumultuous years. Gruden served as Eagles offensive coordinator from 2005-2007.
Doug Marrone: Current head coach of the Syracuse Orange. Marrone was the Saints offensive coordinator from 2006-08, and has nearly a decade of NFL coaching on his resume.
Lovie Smith: Smith is currently without a job, having been fired as Bears head coach on Monday. Smith led the Bears to a Super Bowl (lost to the Colts), but has missed the playoffs for four of the last five seasons with the Bears.
Bill Cowher: The former Steelers coach seems like he's more mentioned by fans than in any particular rumors.
Bruce Arians: Arians was the interim Colts head coach while Chuck Pagano recovered from cancer treatment. He's currently the Colts offensive coordinator, and unable for an interview because the Colts play this weekend.
