Voracek To Be Honored By Philadelphia Sports Writers Association
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Flyers take on the Boston Bruins Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center. One of the few bright spots on the city sports scene last year was the performance of veteran right winger Jake Voracek. Now, the local media is honoring Voracek for his accomplishments during the 2014-15 NHL season.
Voracek led the Flyers with 81 points last season. He was second in the league with 59 assists. The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association will honor Voracek at its annual awards banquet February 1 as its Philadelphia Pro Athlete of the Year.
"It's huge. And I'm very excited about it," Voracek said. "Because, let's be honest, sometimes to please the Philly media isn't that easy. It feels good."
Voracek said it means a lot to be recognized among the city's pro athletes.
"But when you look at what kind of season (Eagles Linebacker) Connor Barwin had last year," he said, "being in the Pro Bowl, being one of the best in the business, I didn't expect it."
The banquet is open to he public.
