Voluntary Cantaloupe Recall Extended To Pennsylvania and NJ
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Pennsylvania and New Jersey are now among at least seventeen states affected by a voluntary recall of cantaloupes.
The voluntary recall follows an outbreak of listeriosis linked to the melons. Four people have died and more than two dozen have been sickened.
There are no cases reported so far in Pennsylvania or New Jersey.
However, melons from Rocky Ford Cantaloupe in Colorado were shipped by Jensen Farms to Pennsylvania and New Jersey between July 29th and September 10th. The Food and Drug Administration is telling consumers to not eat the product and to throw it away.
Officials say this is first Listeria outbreak linked to cantaloupes in the US.
Anyone can get listeriosis, but people with a weakened immune system, older adults, and pregnant woman are most at risk.
