Virgin Mary Statue Returned to Roof of Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- A religious statue is back atop Camden's highest point, repaired after last year's earthquake.
Today, a crane lifted the top three sections of the statue of the Virgin Mary back to where it stood for more than six decades, atop Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Cracks formed after the earthquake last August (see related story), and the decision was quickly made to repair them because, according to hospital officials, this is more than just a religious figure -- it serves as a beacon for incoming aircraft.

"It is the highest building in the city, built on the highest piece of ground. So why not do it with the symbol of the Blessed Mother?" says Sister Helen Owens, vice president for mission.
Workers added an illuminated halo to the head to complete the work.
The hospital raised $65,000 to cover the deductible on the $150,000 project (see previous story). Many view the statue as a statement of commitment to the patients inside, and to the city this hospital calls home.
