Violent Night In Chester Leaves 3 Dead, 1 Injured

CHESTER, Pa., (CBS) - An hour of violence on the streets of Chester left three people dead and sent one to the hospital. The shootings started at 11:15 p.m. and lasted until just after midnight. Mayor John Linder was blunt about the violence that plagues his city.
"For the most part, what we have is bad guys shooting bad guys, and you can't police that," said Mayor Linder.
Police say the shootings are not related. At 11:30 p.m. on West 7th Street, authorities say David Colon Jr., 22, was shot in the back and killed, along with his friend, Frank Perkins, 18. Colon's family came to the scene of his death to mourn.
"I raised him right man," said his father, David Colon Sr. "I raised him right. He just got caught up with the streets."
Not even 45 minutes later, Basilio Clausell, 20, was shot in the head while driving his car along McDowell Avenue. Clausell died later at the hospital. He led a police chase through the city last summer.
"Some of the victims are known to our officers," said Chester Police Commissioner Joseph Bail. "Some of the victims are persons of interest in other shootings."
One more shooting victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. After this night of violence, police say they have put more police on the streets. They also moved officers who work inside to patrols outside.
