Vineland Postpones 4th Of July Celebration To Next Month

VINELAND, NJ (CBS) -- Vineland's 4th of July celebration, which had been postponed to Saturday, will now be held next month.
The event had been pushed back originally because of last weekend's savage storms. The city is still dealing with the aftermath, and crews are still working to restore power to about 10% of the only city in New Jersey with its own electric utility. Mayor Robert Romano opted to postpone the fireworks show again because of the heat wave.
"It's too much stress, too much heat for the kids and for the elderly people to actually go out and enjoy the fireworks. I don't think you can enjoy fireworks sitting there, sweltering in that type of heat," Mayor Romano explained.
The show has now been moved to August 8th. It's a Wednesday evening, and it coincides with Vineland's annual birthday celebration—the 151st.
