Vineland Board Of Education Approves Ads On School Buses

VINELAND, N.J., (CBS) -- The classic yellow buses that file in and out of Vineland schools will soon be a bit more colorful.
While several years ago officials balked at the idea of placing advertisements on buses, at this week's Board of Ed meeting it was a unanimous "yes."
"We feel it's a win-win situation, we don't have "dime one" in it," says BOE member Joseph Pagano.
The district owns their fleet which allows them to sell the ad space at a price of $250 to $2,500 per year.
They expect to make at least $10,000 the first year.
"It is a tough budget time and it just helps to offset some of the costs of our budgets and helps shorten the shortfall a little bit," says business administrator Helen Haley.
Vineland selected a Mullica Hill based company called the Educational Information Resource Center to run the ad business.
In four years of selling ads on buses they're now in 23 school districts including Washington Township.
