Vietnam Vet Shot Inside Grays Ferry Home, Critical
By Elizabeth Hur
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police say a Vietnam veteran is in critical condition after being shot inside his own home in the Grays Ferry neighborhood of Philadelphia.
The shooting took place on the 3100 block of Tasker street Monday night.
Police say they were called to the victim's home for reports of a shooting and they tell CBS 3 Eyewitness News when officers arrived, they found the front door knocked off its hinges and the victim bloodied in the living room.
The victim was reportedly alert and was able to tell police that he was upstairs with his brother when he heard someone banging on his front door. He told police he came downstairs to investigate, and by then the intruder was in his home, and opened fire.
"We know that at least three shots were fired because there's gunshot holes in the door, the wall, as well as the staircase in addition to the two shots in the victim's body," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
"That's just how tough times are right now," the man who identified himself as the victim's nephew said. "You know, crazy stuff is going on. That's all it is. That's all I can attribute it to."
The victim is being treated at Pennsylvania University Hospital.
Police say they don't have a motive or a description of the suspect. They are continuing to investigate the incident.
