Victim Testifies In Sex Trafficking Case
By Tony Hanson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Sad testimony in a federal courtroom in the trial of a Mayfair man charged with sex trafficking of a minor and production of child pornography. The jury has heard from several admitted prostitutes, including the alleged victim, now 20, who have testified they worked for the defendant.
The young woman has testified she was just 17, homeless, when defendant Enock Smith took her in, used her to clean the house, give drugs to prostitutes working in the home and eventually she started "dating" -- meaning having sex with Johns, and using drugs, still while she was just 17-years-old.
She broke down and cried as she talked of the impact on her life. She says she is still addicted to crack despite repeated trips to rehab. She told the jury she can't get her life together, it seems likes it's the only thing she knows now.
The woman has testified she never told Smith she was underage. When he asked, she says she would make up different ages -- 19, 20 -- and he'd tell her she was too slow, she should know her birthdate. The defendant has pleaded not guilty.
