Veterinarians Gather For Penn Vet's Annual Conference

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Hundreds of veterinarians from across the country are attending a three-day, continuing education conference in center city, run by the University of Pennsylvania's school of veterinary medicine ("Penn Vet").
Lecture sessions included advances in equine ophthalmic surgery, canine parvoviral enteritis, and oral care for reptiles.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Valerie Tynes, president-elect of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, spoke about animal behavior problems in exotic pets such as ferrets, rabbits, and pet rodents: "Basically, how to care for these animals so that we are providing for their mental health, if you will, as well as their physical health in captivity."

Dr. Susan Jacobson, who graduated from Penn Vet in 1977 and now works in a rural area of central Virginia (at right in photo below), says she attends the annual conference every year.
"You know, I see people that I wasn't great friends with when I was in school, but now we are such great comrades because we've been through so much," she says. "We've practiced, we shared information. These are lifelong friends."
