Veterans Bring Resumes, Special Skills To Job Fair
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Military veterans got some leads on jobs today during a "Recruit Military" expo at Lincoln Financial Field.
There were about 40 veteran-friendly employers with local, regional and national opportunities, according to Recruit Military Chief Operating Officer Matt Murphy, "What Recruit Military does is connect corporate America with veterans."
He said it's not only the right thing to do for patriotic reasons, but there are plenty of business reasons, including the veterans' skill set and their character.
"You get somebody who's going to work hard, get the job done, and be very mission focused," Murphy said.
Timothy Grebos of Sellersville, Pa, a former officer in the Marines, was putting out feelers. "Military people bring leadership and a 'can do' attitude that employers love," Grebos said.
Mike Hrynchuk, with Frito-Lay, explained the opportunities at his company, "We have route sales representative jobs. Folks will drive a truck, make deliveries and sell products to our stores."
The companies represented included Amtrak, PGW, ITT Technical Institute, and even the Secret Service, where an agent told me he'd have to kill me if he told me anything. Then, he laughed... sort of.
