Veteran Jim Thome's One-Year Deal A Great Move For The Phillies
By Lesley Van Arsdall
The Phillies have signed Jim Thome to a one-year deal. This is a good thing for so many reasons. A former fan favorite, he will definitely add some excitement. He is getting paid a little over a million, which isn't much considering he can hit and they can use another bat. They will also need him to fill in for Ryan Howard while he recovers from Achilles tendon surgery.
Are there some concerns? Yes, he's 41 years old and hasn't played first base on a regular basis since 2007. But he is known to be a hard worker and that can only help the team.
While a great move, and he's a great guy, this probably won't be the biggest move the Phillies make this offseason, but hey, it's a start.
