HATBORO, Pa. (CBS) -- It's been a painful morning for Alex Cruz.
He was asleep in his home when a neighbor rushed to tell him his mother and sister were in a terrible accident near the intersection of North York Road and Hunters Way in Hatboro.
"She told me my mother was in the middle of the road, so I came running from my house over here," said Cruz.
Alex says his mother – 63-year-old Francisca Polanco and 31-year-old sister Mable Cruz were walking back from Walgreens early Monday morning, when they were hit by a car.
Police say they received a 911 call around 12:15 a.m. When they arrived, they found Polanco dead, and rushed Mable Cruz to Abington Memorial Hospital. She is currently listed in serious condition.
Alex says she broke several ribs and her collarbone.
"I hope she makes it, and God is with us, God is big," said Cruz. "The death of my mother, it destroyed my life. Without my mother, I just don't feel good at all."
Police say the driver, a man, did pull over after the two women were hit.
"He stopped, he was cooperative, he was interviewed, and released," said Detective Sergeant Cameron Goold with the Hatboro Police.
Police have not filed charges against the driver.
The accident investigation remains open.
