Vandals Slash Tires Of 30 Transit Buses In Cherry Hill
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) – Police in South Jersey are searching for the vandals who slashed the tires of nearly three dozen transit buses early Wednesday morning.
All Burlington County Transportation System bus service was halted Wednesday after the costly vandalism.
Vandals slashed the tires of all the buses used by BurLink fixed route and the Paratransit link for seniors and the disabled at the depot on Route 38 in Cherry Hill.
Sometime either late last night or early Wednesday morning, vandals punctured tires on buses owned by the BCTS at the lot located at Rt. 38 and Longwood Avenue.
Police say someone punctured every tire on every Paratransit van with a screwdriver or ice pick.
The buses are used to transport seniors, the physically challenged and those requiring dialysis treatment.
"They'll call to our call center and set up appointments for dialysis, nutrition. They have veterans that will go over to Philadelphia for their medical appointments. People that need to get to shopping … I'm talking about food shopping, they need to get their food," Judy Sturm, Director of CT Student Services said.
So far, no arrests have been made.
Preliminary damage estimates places the loss at more than $31,000.
Company officials told Eyewitness News that within the last month, all the tires on the buses were replaced.
Officials say there will be no Paratransit bus service provided Wednesday.
No school buses were damaged according to the transit service because they were stored at a different location.
