Vandalism at Penndot Yard in Nicetown
Authorities say vandals broke into a Penndot maintenance yard in Philadelphia's Nicetown section around midnight, causing extensive damage to a company truck and other equipment.
City and state police are investigating the break-in at the yard near Blaine and Ruffner Streets.
Penndot spokesman Gene Blaum says vandals broke into the yard where their equipment - mostly trucks - are stored.
Police say the vandals jump started a pickup truck and drove it a few feet around the yard and slammed the truck into a garage, damaging a building door. The intruders responsible then fled.
Police initially said nothing had appeared to have been taken. No one was hurt and police say they had no initial suspects.
Blaum said he had no estimate on damages but a state police corporal expected damage to be in the thousands of dollars.
