Valuing A Doctor's Time
By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Some of the most important time a patient spends with a physician is when a doctor and patient can talk…they can talk about many things including lifestyle, diet, family problems, dosages of medications, the need for elective surgery.
Unfortunately, as important as this might be, it is not necessarily valued when doctors get reimbursed for their services. Most reimbursement is based on procedures and direct action like prescribing medications for an illness. People are getting frustrated.
A Kaiser study found more than 50% of women never got the support or help they needed because doctors are not spending the time to deal with these so-called non-reimbursable issues.
