Getting To Valley Forge Park From Schuylkill River Trail Now Easier

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) - Cyclists trying to get to Valley Forge Park from the Schuylkill River Trail can say goodbye to the rickety, old wooden bridge.

The brand new Sullivan's Bridge has officially opened.

Sullivan's Bridge is 14 feet wide and 604 feet long, giving cyclists and pedestrians easy access to Valley Forge National Historical Park from the very popular Schuylkill River Trail.

"With its opening, Sullivan Bridge creates a critical link in the circuit trails -- the vast regional trail network comprised of hundreds of miles of interconnected trails," says PennDOT secretary and former Montgomery County commissioner Leslie Richards.

Bob Keeney from Collegeville was one of about 150-200 people that came out for the opening:

"I think it's a great improvement," he says. "I've gone across the old Betzwood Bridge on that rickety wooden -- it's a scary proposition, but this is really very nice."

The name comes from major general John Sullivan.
