Vacationers Head Back To The Jersey Shore

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (CBS) - It was estimated up to one-million people were forced from the Jersey Shore this weekend, thanks to the evacuations for Irene. Now, many of them will be flooding back into the shore towns, looking to get their summer vacations back on track.

Usually when a big storm hits, it's the people near Philadelphia worrying about their homes down the shore. This time, it was just the opposite.

"I think my mom's house outside of Philly got about 8-10 inches (of rain) so I think they got it worse than us, as far as flooding goes," Andy Godfrey said as he cleaned up some minor water damage around his Ocean City home.

He and everyone else down here are ready to get back to normal beach life. With the beautiful weather yesterday and promising forecasts for the remainder of the week, that shouldn't be difficult.

As for the mandatory evacuation, pretty much everybody we've talked to understands why it was ordered.
