Utility Crews Continue Efforts To Restore Power Across Philadelphia Region
PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — Utility crews restored power to thousands of Pennsylvania homes Saturday, but some customers in the dark for days after a tree-snapping ice storm may not regain power until early next week.
Tens of thousands of customers remain without power in the Philadelphia area, days after a winter storm coated trees and electrical lines with ice.
PECO, the major electricity supplier in the five-county region, says less than 40,000 customers in hard-hit Chester County are still without power.
The remaining outages as of Saturday night include about 20,000 families in Montgomery County, and 16,000 in Bucks County.
PECO has brought in crews from other states to help deal with crippling storm, which downed trees and electrical lines on Wednesday.
Across the state, about 850,000 customers lost power, prompting officials to declare a state of emergency.
PECO alone reported 623,000 outages at one point, making it the second-worst storm in the company's history, topped only by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
