Users Will Soon Be Able To Make Dinner Reservations On Facebook's Mobile App

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Making dinner reservations is about to get even easier.

Back in the day, you had to actually make a phone call and speak to a real, live person to reserve your table. Nowadays, apps and websites like Open Table have simplified the process.

And starting this week, you can research and make your dinner plans from one place, using Facebook. The company says it's rolling out a new integration that will allow Facebook users on the mobile site to make reservations directly from the restaurant's Facebook page via OpenTable.

The feature apparently uses Facebook's "Nearby Places" tab to find tables in the user's vicinity, and the reservation can be made without leaving the Facebook app -- unlike with other OpenTable partners, which require users to open a browser tab.

More than 20,000 restaurants across the country will be accessible through the new feature, and it's only available in North America at this time.
