US Is Destination For Foreign Students

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The US is the world's top destination for international students with a record number of 819,644 studying here in 2012-2013.
Parents for more than 63%, are the greatest sources of support. They enroll in the Universities of Southern California, Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Purdue and New York primarily.
For seven years Chinese students dominated the group of foreign students after years of double-digit growth, but latest figures show moderate increases. However, first-time graduate enrollments from India surged 40%. Because they are mostly graduate students, they foot the cost and economic prospects affect their numbers.
Brazilian students grew 17%, as did South Koreans with a rise in a government-funded scholarship programs.
Enrollments were up in every field except for life sciences with engineering, physical and earth sciences (which include mathematics and computer science) showing strongest growth.
