US Airways Flight Attendants Picket At PHL As Negotiations Drag On
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - As US Airways management and its flight attendants get ready to go to mediated contract talks next month, informational picketing by flight attendants was going on today at Philadelphia International Airport.
After five years of negotiating, the flight attendants say they want an industry-comparable contract. Sticking points include salary and health benefits.
"Sure it's a tough economy," says Mike Flores, president of the US Airways chapter of the Association of Flight Attendants (at right in photo), "but the company came off of its second-highest profitmaking year ever last year, and it's time to share the wealth."
A spokeswoman for US Airways says the company understands the frustration among flight attendants over the amount of time it is taking to hammer out a deal but says the company shares in the frustration.
The first joint negotiation session is scheduled for May 16th.
