Ursinus Makes Offer To Students That's Hard To Refuse
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (CBS) - A local liberal arts college is working to reduce tuition sticker shock by halving the yearly cost to qualified students, no matter their family's income.
"Direct-billed costs are $62,000 for the year," says Ursinus vice president for enrollment Dave Tobias, "so this gives nearly a half-price cut in terms of tuition and room and board costs."
He says the $30,000 tuition break will be offered to students who meet the school's college-level requirements, plus…
"Have earned at least a 28 on the ACT or a 1260 on the SAT."
Tobias says the average SAT score for students entering Ursinus is 1170. So is the deeply discounted tuition rate tied to higher scores a bid to attract more high achievers?
"What we wanted to do," he explains, "was show high-achieving students that there was an affordable, private higher education option for them, and that's Ursinus."
