Upper Moreland Man Sentenced For Electronically Stalking Ex
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. (CBS) - A Montgomery County man will spend at least three-and-a-half years behind bars in state prison for electronically stalking his former girlfriend after they broke up and prosecutors say he continued to harass the woman even after he was arrested.
Prosecutor Cara McMenamin says the impact of this case on the victim and her family is nothing short of terrifying.
Twenty-three-old Matthew Hairston-Johnston of Upper Moreland was sentenced to three-and-a-half to seven years in prison for stalking and retaliating against his former girlfriend.
McMenamin says he made several hundred calls to her cell, home phone and workplace and then started sending threatening e-mails and faxes.
"It's terrifying. It's a thing that movies are made of. It's above and beyond what a normal person would do when faced with a rejection from a paramour," McMenamin explained.
She calls Hairston-Johnston a techno savvy ticking time bomb who continued to harass the woman from behind bars by arranging for three-way calling through a friend. He told police he wanted to scare her to get her back into his life.
