Upper Darby Woman Charged With Pepper Spraying Employees At Family Dollar

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- An Upper Darby woman has been charged in connection with a Monday incident at a local store where police say she shot pepper spray at two store employees and then tried to get her seven-year-old daughter to assist with the assault.
It happened at the Garrett Road Family Dollar store.
Authorities say Delaina Garling, 27, had been banned for an alleged earlier theft. When a store manager recognized her and told her to leave, police say the woman fired pepper spray at the manager and another employee who eventually wrestled her to the floor.
"She gave the can to her daughter and told her 'you know what to do baby--spray it,'" Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. Chitwood said the young girl never got the spray because another store worker grabbed the can.
Police took the woman into custody and searched her. In addition to the pepper spray, they also confiscated marijuana and other drugs.
Garling has since been charged with various counts of assault and drug violations.
Garling's 8-year-old son and 7-year-old step-daughter were turned over to their father.
